Soldiers attack Suame police station to release colleague

A melee ensued at the Suame police station on Friday when soldiers attempted to release their arrested colleague
The police in the Ashanti Region have confirmed that some soldiers attacked their personnel at the Suame police station on Friday (29 October) to release one of their colleagues who was arrested for riding an unregistered motorbike.
Staff sergeant Jamal Deen Mohammed who was in civilian cloth at the time of his arrest called his colleagues when he was allegedly manhandled by the police, a source told Asaaseradio.com.
A melee then ensued when the soldiers arrived to release their colleague in custody.
“A misunderstanding ensued between the soldiers and the police. The impasse was resolved after the intervention of the Ashanti Regional police commander and the commanding officer of the 4th Infantry Battalion in Kumasi,” a joint police and military statement said.
It added: “The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident and anyone found culpable will be dealt with administratively and according to law. The two security institutions are committed to a harmonious relationship and will not condone any proven act of wrongdoing of personnel.”
