Ghana card can never be an electronic passport – Head of I.T, NDC
Osei Kwame Griffiths, head of IT for the NDC has reacted to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s digitization of the Ghana card as an electronic passport.
According to him, an electronic passport must contain certain elements which can effectively synchronize with a particular data.
He explained that the first stage of e-passport must contain the basic information identity, which is the name, date of birth, place of birth, place of issue, picture, and date of issue etc.
He added that there is a chip in the cover book that contains the biometric information of one’s identity that is the definition of an electronic passport.
He disclosed that there is another passport card ‘plastic card” just like the Ghana card which contains the basic identity.
The Ghana card initiative under the former President Mahama was a good initiative but there were lots of issues that limited the Ghana card which led to a lot of institution creating theirs since the user agency could not use it.
