We remain committed to distributing laptops to teachers – GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured teachers and, indeed, the general public that its management remains committed to the scheduled dates for the distribution of laptops to teachers under the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ policy.
There have been divisions on the teacher union front regarding the contract with one union, All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG), threatening to stage a protest on Wednesday, December 15 over the matter.
But a statement issued by GES on Friday, December 10 said so far 80 percent of the 62,000 laptops procured for senior high school teachers have been delivered across the country.
“This phase is expected to be completed on the 17th of December, 2021.”
Signed by the Head of Public Relations, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the statement further noted that distribution to teachers in primary and senior high schools will commence in January 2022 when schools reopen.
It said all teachers will be trained on the modules and software of the laptops.
“The training will include digitizing lesson notes, using online tools for learning management and supporting learners.”
Already, about 260 district ICT coordinators with the GES have been trained on the modules and software and certified with Microsoft ICT tools “to provide technical support to teachers”.
“To ensure teachers get access to approved GES/NaCCA learning resources, KA Technology has signed an agreement with all major publishers to have their textbooks and other teaching and learning materials uploaded on the portal.”
The ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ project was launched on Friday, September 3, 2021, by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
