AFCON exit: Ghana FA boss must back off from player selection, says analyst

Christopher Nimley, a sports analyst and coach has taken a swipe at the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku over his alleged involvement in the selection of players for the Black Stars.

His comments come after the GFA officially sacked Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac after a poor showing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

“I am of the view that people who run football clubs in this country should not be people who are owning football clubs and managing players,” Nimley said on The Asaase Breakfast Show Thursday (27 January).

“They should tell Kurt Okraku that the interview he granted Joy News when he sat in that chair on national television and told the whole country that he Kurt Okraku is not a technical man, he knows nothing, I repeat absolutely nothing when it comes to coaching when it comes to technicalities.

“So, he should be bold enough to come back and apologise to the people of this country and say henceforth I wash my hands off player selections. We are talking about the Black Stars, it is rotten at the juvenile level,” Nimley told the host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.

GFA sacks Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac

The executive council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday (26 January) sacked Rajevac following Ghana’s early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 tournament.

Ghana suffered a humiliating group-stage exit after the four-time champions were beaten 3-2 by debutants Comoros.

“The executive council after considering the three reports and engagements with key stakeholders has decided to end its relationship with coach Milovan Rajevac and also decided that the Black Stars management committee be reconstituted,” the GFA said in a statement.

“The association would like to thank Milovan Rajevac and the management committee the very best in their future endeavours.

“The GFA will soon announce the reconstituted Technical Team and Management Committee after due engagement with all relevant stakeholders,” the statement added.

Ghana’s next assignment is a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff against Nigeria in March 2022.
