I feel Italian -Tony Yeboah’s nephew reveals reason for rejecting Ghana

Kelvin Yeboah, the nephew of legendary Ghanaian forward, Anthony Yeboah, has finally revealed his reason for choosing to represent Italy over the country of his birth.

The Genoa forward rejected an invite to play for the Black Stars last June, only to honour a call up from the Italy U21 manager Paolo Nicolato.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX, the 21-year-old revealed he feels Italian and that made the decision easier for him.

“I arrived in Italy when I was two, I grew up in Italy and I feel Italian. I started playing in the youth sectors of Novara and Gozzano, then I went to London, to West Ham. From there I decided to move to Austria, to start from the Austrian Serie B to go up more and more. Now the Genoa challenge is challenging and fascinating. We need the right energy,” he said as quoted by Calcionews24.

Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that Kelvin Yeboah has made a decision to represent the Italy U-21 side rather than Ghana’s Black Stars.

Yeboah was invited as part of Black Stars coach CK Akonnor’s 30-man provisional squad earlier in August but seems to have been swayed by the Azzuri U-21s.

Yeboah was named in the Italy U-21 squad for their upcoming European U-21 qualifiers with Luxembourg and Montenegro.

Former Ghana international, Tony Yeboah has pledged to persuade his nephew, Kelvin Yeboah to rescind his decision of playing for Italy and represent the Black Stars at the senior level.

Kelvin Yeboah snubbed a Black Stars invite in June last year to play for the Italy U21 national team, leaving many shocked especially with his uncle being a Ghana legend.

But Tony Yeboah, who was speaking to Onua TV, says he will have a talk with his nephew, to convince him into switching allegiance and playing for the African country.
