The doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi have postponed their intended strike which was expected to begin today, 1 February.
It comes after an emergency meeting with the management of the hospital and the Ministry of Health on non-payment of their car maintenance allowance on Monday.
A statement issued by the chairman of the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association Dr. Kwaku Nyame said the strike will now begin on Friday (4 February).
“After engagement with the management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital today 31 January 2022, on nonpayment of car maintenance allowance and 13th-month allowance for doctors in KATH, we decided to defer the start of our intended strike action which was to start tomorrow 1 February 2022 to Friday 4 February 2022.
“This decision was taken at our emergency general meeting held on 31 January 2022. The decision was taken after a show of some commitment by Hospital Management and the Ministry of Health to end the long-standing stalemate in the fulfillment of our signed conditions of service in 2019.”
“We hope, as agreed, earlier at the meeting of KADA executives with hospital management, that by the end of working hours on Thursday 3 February 2021, there will be a clear concise payment schedule, “ the statement said.
