Ghana: DOL: Fans subject Tamale City to attacks

  • Players severely injured
  • Bus vandalized

Reports from the Brono Region of Ghana say, players and officials of Tamale-based Division One league club, Tamale City were severely and mercilessly assaulted by irate fans of Baffour Soccer Academy at the Nsoatre Twumasi Sports Complex.

Hell broke loose after the national second tier game between the two clubs ended in a pulsating one all draw after Tamale City leveled the score line from the spot kick on the 70th minute mark, much to the chagrin of the irate home fans.

According to reports monitored by www.mylybnews.com, the protesting fans, following the penalty awarded the away team, resorted to deflating the tyres of the bus of the away team as a signal of their protestations.

The visibly incensed army of supporters of Baffour Soccer Academy, immediately after the blast of the referee’s whistle to signal the end of the game, pelted fans and officials of Tamale City indiscriminately hurting and severely injuring players as they run helter-skelter for their lives in the melee.

It is unclear how the Ghana Football Association would react, especially after its promise to stem violence in the spot.
